WOHL, ANA YOLANDA BLANCO Ana Yolanda Blanco Wohl died Wednesday, October 19, 2016 after a long illness. She was born on the Isle of Pines, Cuba in July 1944. Yolanda became a force to reckon with. We met in 8th grade and dated in high school. She went to Villanova in Philadelphia, and I did my military service. Meeting again in Miami, I knew she would be my wife, because I had never met another girl like her. We graduated from UF in 1972, having been one of the last couples to live in the Flavets married housing. We were blessed with four children: Ana Maria, Michael, Aaron, and Nicholas. She made sure I was the first husband in the delivery room at Mercy hospital in Miami, and then again at Shands UF, now an accepted practice. Our third child was born in the back of a VW bus in North Carolina - 264th baby born in a VW, and our fourth was born at home. Yolanda advocated for mi-grant farm workers in South Carolina and Florida for 25 years, ultimately learning Haitian Creole in Immokalee so she could better serve the community there. She was a career teacher and counselor for 32 years, finishing in Alachua County. Always a fierce advocate for children, she was a strong believer in Education, holding two Mas-ters degrees and a Specialist degree, with eight areas of expertise on her Florida teaching certificate. She made me who I am today, then did the same with her four children. A high school assistant principal, an entrepreneur, an ER doctor, and a City of Miami fire/rescue captain. She was truly a force to reckon... She is survived by her husband of 50 wonderful years, Ronald Wohl, a volunteer nurse practitioner at indigent clinics in Alachua and Levy County, and her six grandchildren, whom she adored: Ra-chel, David, Rebecca, Marie, Ella, and Jake. A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 10900 SW 24th Avenue, Gainesville. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 26, 2016, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery Chapel, 11411 NW 25th Street, Miami, FL.
