Andy L. Holmes of Harrisville passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Lakeview Manor Healthcare Center in Tawas City, age 88. Andy was born on Aug. 29, 1923 in Baldwin Township to Roy and Golda (nee Brussel) Holmes. He proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps as a private first class during World War II and was honorably discharged on Jan. 15, 1944. Andy was employed by Consumers Power Company for 27 years working as a lineman and serviceman mostly in Harrisville, retiring on Sept. 1, 1980. Those who knew Andy will always remember his passion for the outdoors. He truly enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking. Andy was a member of the NRA and he was also a very accomplished trapper and a member of the Michigan Trappers Association. He even was inducted into the Michigan Trappers Hall of Fame. Andy married his lovely wife, Margaret (nee Woizeschke), on Sept. 22, 1945. Together, they celebrated 66 years of marriage. Andy is survived by his wife, Margaret Holmes of Harrisville; two brothers, Herbert (Geraldine) Holmes of Tawas City and David Holmes of East Tawas; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Bill) Cronk of East Tawas, Helen (Joseph) Bouchard of Tawas City and Jean (Cal) Willett of Bay City; very special twin aunts, Evelyn Keller and Lucille Vishnauski; and many nieces and nephews. Andy was preceded in death by his two sisters, Viola Purtee and Rosetta (Jim) Brown; and sister- and brother-in-law, Carol and William Ryan. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a burial of his cremated remains will take place in Wilber Township Cemetery with military honors on Tuesday April 10 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the , American Kidney Foundation or the .
