Arlene Ester Griffiths GreenfieldFebruary 16, 1917 - August 5, 2014Arlene G. Greenfield died Tuesday morning in Nampa, Idaho. She was 97. Graveside services will be held at Canyon Hill Cemetery at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 9, 2014. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.dakanfuneralchapel.comA lifelong resident of Canyon County, Arlene was born on February 16, 1917, in Caldwell, Idaho to Lewis & Faye Griffiths. She attended Washington Elementary School (1st-8th grades) in Caldwell. She attended 9th & 10th grades at Caldwell High School and 11th & 12th grades at Wilder High School where she was the lead singer in two productions, homecoming princess, and vice president of the Senior Class. After high school graduation in 1935, she attended Business College in Boise and roomed with her good friends, Marie Obendorf and Ruth Batt. After business college, she worked at a bank in Parma for 4 years.In 1939 she married Vernon Greenfield and after a short stay in Parma, they purchased a farm on Homedale Road where they lived and farmed until 1976. They raised 3 children there: a daughter, Glenda, born in 1941 and twin boys, Rick and Rob, born in 1946. During this time, Arlene was very active singing and dancing in the Huston Community Club and playing bridge with her many friends in Caldwell. Arlene always supported her children and grandchildren and attended as many events as she could. After her children went to college she worked at the Clothes Tree in Caldwell and also did some modeling. She also worked at Earl's Clothing Store and Heaven to 7. After they retired from the farm in 1976, Vernon and Arlene moved to a subdivision on Airport Road and began traveling. They spent their winters with family and friends golfing, and exploring Arizona by dune buggy and RV. Summers they played with their children and grandchildren either with their boat or with their many horses. They also traveled to Hawaii, Thailand, Mexico and Paris.Arlene was preceded in death by her parents Lewis & Faye Griffiths, her sister Velma Oellien, brother Edgar Griffiths, and husband Vernon Greenfield. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Verna Griffiths, sister-in-law, Virginia Griffiths, a daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Jerry Bayley of Post Falls, ID, her sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Greenfield and Kristin Tucker of Olympia, WA, and Robert & Joyce Greenfield of Caldwell, 6 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.The family would like to thank the many compassionate professionals that cared for her in her final years. The family suggests memorials to the Vallivue High School music program, 1407 Homedale Road, Caldwell, ID 83607.
