Baron Lowe, respected leader in the local community, died at 90. Baron Lowe, retired Certified Public Accountant, founding partner of the local accounting firm Essary, Del Porto & Lowe, and leader in the Sacramento business and civic community, died on Monday, December 12, 2016. He passed away peacefully at the Asian Community Center. He was born on February 28, 1926 at the Chinese Hospital in San Francisco's Chinatown to Yea Lowe and Ida Jow Lowe. His intellect, even temperament, and restrained confidence will be missed. He graduated from McClatchy High School, served in the U.S. Army, and was discharged on December 27, 1946. He resumed his college education on the GI Bill at Stanford University and graduated in 1949 with a BS in biology. While at Stanford, he was introduced to his future wife Jean Yen on a blind date arranged by his Stanford classmate Henry Lew. Baron and Jean started dating and became engaged. He decided he needed to find a job and earn a living because he wanted to marry and start a family. Because he was "good at numbers," he enrolled at Golden Gate University and quickly obtained a second BS in accounting. He and Jean married on July 15, 1951, started a family, and moved to Sacramento in 1956 in search of a better lot. He soon met his future partners Bill Essary and Gene Del Porto, and they started their own firm. The firm thrived serving the needs of individuals, families, and local businesses. This success allowed Baron to serve in a leadership capacity with a number of professional organizations, including as president of the California Society of CPAs, and also serve on the board of Mercy Healthcare, Children's Home Society of California, United Way, and the Sacramento Chamber of Commerce. He loved his job and his clients and worked extremely hard on their behalf. Still, he found time to enjoy life and liked to travel, play golf, go dancing, listen to jazz, and savor a Beefeater martini. Baron is survived by his wife of 65 years Jean, their three children Brenda Wong (Marvin Wong deceased), Wesley Lowe, and Whitney Lowe, and their three grandchildren Collin, Quincey, and Carson Wong. He was a loving husband, able father, and doting grandfather. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Lila (Edgar Lowe deceased), sister Lois Kwong (Ray Kwong deceased), and by many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Harry A. Nauman & Son Funeral Home, 4041 Freeport Blvd, Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Asian Community Center, 7801 Rush River Dr., Sacramento, CA 95831 (916) 393-9020
