This obituary is administered by:
Carolyn Bruno HollisRidgelandCarolyn Bruno Hollis, 69, died Saturday, October 15, 2016, at home in Ridgeland, MS. After a private family burial, visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday the 18th at First Presbyterian Church, Jackson. MS. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the church followed by an additional visitation from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Carolyn will be remembered for her radiant smile and constant joy. She served her family with humility and a selfless heart and loved every friend she was given. She loved singing hymns, riding her bicycle and playing with her grandchildren who affectionately called her "Cacky." Carolyn beautifully reflected God's love through caring for her family, her career as a teacher, servant-leadership at church, Junior League of Jackson, Delta Delta Delta sorority at Ole Miss, and countless other avenues sharing her gifts of hospitality and grace. Carolyn was born on March 14, 1947, in Jackson, and was the daughter of John and Mary Lou McDaniel Bruno. She grew up in the Belhaven neighborhood of Jackson, attending Murrah High School. She graduated from Ole Miss where she met her husband Jay Lawrence (Larry) Hollis of Carthage, and they were married on August 9, 1969. The two lived in Jackson where Carolyn taught school at Jackson Prep and raised their three children.Carolyn is survived by her faithful husband, Larry; their three children: Ashley Maddux and her husband Chris; Betsy Brown and her husband David; Jay Hollis and his wife Laura; their nine grandchildren, Christopher, Griffin, John Ed, Anna Cate, Mary Hollis, Emily, Walker, Rosie and Lucy; and her brothers John Bruno III of Nashville, TN, and Richard McDaniel Bruno of Roswell, GA. Her mother, Mary Lou McDaniel Bruno and her father, John Bruno, of Jackson preceded her in death.Carolyn's greatest comfort in life was knowing the assurance found in Jesus Christ, her Savior. Her family is so appreciative of the loving support provided by family and friends in her battle with cancer. "For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal." - II Corinthians 4:17-18. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The University of Mississippi Children's Cancer Center, Jackson, MS.
