Marek, Donald R.Donald R. Marek, age 90, a Manitowoc resident, died on Saturday, July 1, 2017.Donald was born on September 13, 1926, son of the late Otto and Evelyn (Schultz) Marek. After high school Don joined the Merchant Marines and was honorably discharged. He was then drafted by the U.S. Army and served in the Army Reserves. On June 21, 1975, Don married the former Mary Ann Bronk at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manitowoc. Don worked for 37 years at Kelvinator Company in Manitowoc. After his retirement, he became a self-taught woodcarver and made many beautiful gifts for his family and friends. Don received the Merit Award at the Manitowoc County Fair for his carvings four years in a row.In his younger years, he enjoyed tennis, dartball, bowling, trap shooting and sailing. Don loved to read and watch the Green Bay Packers. He was a member of the Two Rivers Senior Center and the Manitowoc County Zoo Association.Survivors include his wife of 42 years: Mary Ann Marek; one sister: Nancy (Michael) Weilmuenster; one sister-in-law: Caroline Bronk; nieces and nephews: Nancy (Fred) Refling, Patrice (Gary ) Ott, Monte (Joye) Marek, Holly Eney, Clarice (Thomas) Silbersack, Cynthia L. (Daniel) Sook, Frank A. Ciha. Many great-nieces and great-nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: David (Gertrude) Marek and Otto Marek; one sister: Dorothy (Lloyd) Kaufman; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Emil and Pearl Bronk; one brother-in-law: Alvin Bronk; two sisters-in-law: Irene (Robert) Ciha and Lorraine Bronk; and other great-nieces and great-nephews.Cremation has taken place at All-Care Cremation Center and Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall (1114 South 21st Street), Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Richard Klingeisen. Burial of Donald's cremated remains will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall, Manitowoc, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family by visiting www.pfefferfuneralhome.com.The Pfeffer Funeral Home and All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.The family would like to thank Don's caregiver, nephew, Frank A.
