Dorothy Murchison TateCounce, TNDorothy Elaine Murchison Tate died peacefully at her home on April 24, 2017, in Counce, TN, at the age of 94.Dorothy is survived by her son, Donald Ray Tate, who lived with and cared for her. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley Murchison Horton of Bartlett, TN, two nieces, Cindy Horton Riggs and Debby Horton Davis (Hank), two nephews, Richard Carter Horton (Patricia) and Jeffery Taylor Horton (Felicya) and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Edward Tate, and her son, Daniel James Tate.Dorothy was born on October 10, 1922, in Memphis, TN, to Daniel James Murchison and Florence Ava Murchison. She graduated from Rutherford High School and attended The University of Tennessee at Martin, where she played basketball. She married Raymond on August 1, 1942, in Desoto County, MS. After moving to Memphis, Dorothy began a long and illustrious career in finance, working in the credit department of Sears & Roebuck Crosstown, the bond department of Union Planters National Bank, and was office manager for Carty & Company Investment Bankers.Dorothy was an accomplished seamstress and an avid book reader. She was a member of the Union Avenue United Methodist Church for many years, where she taught Sunday School.Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 27th at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel from 5-7pm.
