Dune Marie LazenbySanta Paula, CADune Marie Patten Lazenby was born on November 11, 1923 in Payson Utah to Charles and Sofie Patten. Doug and Dune had three children, Steve ( Susan ) Diana Etchells ( Jim ) and Luana Lindsey ( Dean ) with 12 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. She was of Norwegian heritage. Dune was the last remaining of 17 children. Dune attended Payson High School, in Payson Utah, where she met her soulmate and her high school sweetheart, J Douglas Lazenby. While Doug was serving in the Navy in WWII, the couple married on November 9, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple of The . In 1950, after Doug graduated BYU, the couple moved to California and then to Santa Paula, where they bought their home on Ellfred Court for $13,000 and that's where they lived for the rest of their lives. Dune lived in the house for 62 years. Doug taught at Santa Paula High School for 32 years while Dune stayed at home taking care of their children. Doug and Dune celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2003. Doug passed away on August 4, 2006 at the age of 82. Dune re-united with her eternal companion on September 19 at the age of 93. Dune was an active member of The where she served as Relief Society President, Primary President, Primary Teacher, Visiting Teacher, Ward Librarian, and Ward Historian. She loved to garden and was working in the yard daily, even just 2 weeks before her passing. She was always working on scrapbooking and the family has dozens of scrapbooks to look back on with fond memories. She had a large macadamia nut tree on the side yard. She would go out several times a day and collect the nuts that had fallen. She would rotate, dry, crack and then cover the nuts with chocolate. She loved Disney, making (more than you can count) trips over the years. She also loved her trip to DisneyWorld. She even spent her 90th birthday with family at Disney's Aulani Resort in Hawaii, and the grandkids play room was completely decorated with all things Disney. There is also a paver near the entrance of Disneyland, dedicated to the Lazenby Family. Music was also a big part of her life, she sang in her younger years, and enjoyed all types of music. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. She was a very special mom, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
You can to the family or in memory of Dune Lazenby.
