JEFFERSON Earl N. Bankert, 92, died Friday, December 19, 2014. He was the husband of the late Mildred M. (Krebs) Bankert, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, with Pastor Chris Lofquist and Pastor Don Clark officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Steltz Church Cemetery with military honors by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Viewings will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Bankert was born on September 13, 1922, in Hanover, the son of the late Ralph and Bertha (Wildasin) Bankert. He was a Starch Maker for P.H. Glatfelter, Spring Grove, for 42 years. Purple Heart Medal in Metz, France, in 1944. Earl was a member of New Hope Bible Church, Seven Valleys, and Windy Hill Senior Center, Spring Grove. He enjoyed Lawrence Welk and going on walks. In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters, Janet E. Rinehart and her husband, Sterling of Railroad, and Darlene R. Openshaw and her husband, Richard of Glen Rock; a son, Gary E. Bankert and his wife, Denise of Glenville; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Loretta Shaffer and Mary Jane Stengle, both of Hanover. He was predeceased by three brothers, Burnell, Laverne, and Ivan; and two sisters, Florine and Arlene.
