RACINE - Edward Herman, 88, passed away at Ridgewood Care Center on Sunday, January 15, 2012. He was born on February 20, 1923, son of the late Fred and Johanna (nee: Kaufman) Herrmann. He was a life long Racine resident. Edward graduated from Horlick High School in 1941 and then joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942. He served proudly in the South Pacific during the war and was discharged from active duty in 1949. Edward retired from Gormac Products in 1988, where he had been a machinist for 41 years. He was a true Packer Fan throughout the years and greatly enjoyed this years season. Ed was very proud of his service in the Marine Corps and was instrumental in entering the 1st Iwo Jima float in the Racine 4th of July Parade. Recently he took part in an Honor Flight to the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C. and was accompanied by his grandson, roommate of 10 years and best friend, Nate. It was one of the most memorable times of his life and he was grateful for the opportunity. He will be deeply missed by his two cats Pete and Blue. Edward was a life long member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He is survived by his six children: Pris (Barb Baumgartner) Herman of Madison, Paul (Shelia) Herman of Huntsville, Alabama, Sandy (Mike) DeBonis of Racine, John (Peggy) Herman of Madison, Jim (Sue Higgins) Herman and Suanne (Brent) Hutchison both of Racine; seven grandsons: Eddie Herman, Greg Herman, Nate Hutchison (Colette Schaefer), Jeff Herman, Matt DeBonis, Tim DeBonis and Gus Hutchison; his children's mother Annie (nee: Olsen) Herman of Racine; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his first born infant son Edward and sisters Lydia Neily and Eleanor Christiansen; his identical twin brother Edwin and his other brothers Fredrick and Bob Herman. Funeral services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church (510 Kewaunee Street) at 11am on Friday, January 20, 2012 with Rev. Daniel B. Quinn officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5-7pm; and again Friday in the church beginning at 10am.
