SCHLUETERElmer Anthony Schlueter, MD, age 91, passed away peacefully on Jan 26, 2017. He was born on Dec 1, 1925 in Cincinnati, OH to Francis and Emma Schlueter. He graduated from Roger Bacon High School, Xavier University and the University of Cincinnati Medical School receiving his MD in 1948. He completed an internship at Good Samaritan Hospital in 1949 and General Practice Residency at St. Elizabeth Hospital in 1950. He then started his solo family medicine practice in Deer Park. He joined the Air Force as a Captain in 1953 serving as a flight surgeon. He resumed private practice in Deer Park in 1955. He worked tirelessly as a solo family practice doctor until 1987 when he helped to establish the Bethesda Family Practice Program. He was on the medical staff at Good Samaritan, Bethesda, and Our Lady of Mercy Hospitals. He served as an Assistant Clinical Professor in Family Medicine with the University of Cincinnati Medical School and remained active in teaching and clinical practice until retiring in 1995. He was the President of the Southwestern Ohio Society of Family Physicians 1970-72. He was among the first group of Family Physicians to be board certified. He received many personal awards including the prestigious Marianist award from Moeller High School in 1986. He established the sports medicine program at Moeller High School and served as team physician. Elmer, affectionately known as "Moe," married Carmelita Siemer in 1949. They were happily married for 67 years and were blessed with 5 children. He is survived by his wife Carmelita; daughters Paula (Mark Wagner), Phyllis (David Rutti), Mary Pat (Mark Fischer), son Francis (Mary Welsh); 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother Ralph, and sister Eleanor. He was preceded in death by his son Eric, grandson Daniel, brothers Frank, Edward, Paul, and sister Alma. Visitation Friday Feb 3, 5-7 PM at Gilligan Funeral Home in Kenwood (45236). Mass of Christian burial Saturday Feb 4, 11:00 AM at St Xavier Church, Sycamore St, Downtown Cincinnati.
