LAUREL HILL — Mr. Ervin Norton, 85, passed away to his Heavenly home on Jan. 15, 2015.
Ervin was a son of the late Lawrence and Maude Bullard Norton born on March 17, 1929. He graduated with the Class of 1947 from Laurel Hill High School. He was a farmer and a retired textile worker from Fieldcrest Mills. He served as a member of the Sandhills Free Will Baptist Church and loved farming, playing checkers and listening to gospel music. Mr. Norton will be remembered and cherished as a loving and devoted husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his son James Norton and daughter-in-law Mary Alice Norton, great-granddaughter Hannah Norton, and siblings Alton Norton, Tebe Norton, Marshall Norton, Armon Norton and Baxter Norton.
Ervin is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Eddie Jean Kennedy Norton of their home in Laurel Hill, two sons: Gary Wayne Norton, Sr. and wife Claudia and Okcuse Norton and wife Sharon, his daughter Sandra Pate and husband Danny all of Laurel Hill, his brother Bill Norton of Laurel Hill, five sisters: Emma N. High Carter of Laurel Hill, Mary Langley of Pinehurst, Lawrine Howie of Charlotte, Jeanette N. Sessoms, and Betty Lou Williams both of Laurel Hill; 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a host of family and friends.
The funeral service will be at 5 p.m. on Saturday in the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by the Rev. Ricky Jacobs and the Rev. Wayne Elliott. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Burial in the Norton Family Cemetery will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday officiated by the Rev. Wayne Norton and the Rev. J.W. Williams.
