PAIGE Florence Mae Paige, aka “Diamond Flo,” was born on December 1, 1913 in Boston, Massachusetts. Florence and the late Henry “Sonny” Paige were married on December 25, 1934. They had two children, Beverly and Errol, and were married for sixty years. Florence retired in 1978 after working at Filene’s Department store for thirty years, where she was one of the first African American Sales Associates. She then decided to pursue her nursing dream and worked as a Medical Records Supervisor at Mattapan Community Health Center until retiring again. Florence was an avid tennis player and could be found on the tennis court well into her eighties. She played competitively and won tournaments and trophies. At 102 years old, her day was not complete until she walked around her entire complex. Florence was a health care advocate for senior citizens, a community activist, and a caregiver to family and friends. Florence will be remembered for the hand written letters she would send to those so very close to her. Florence passed away at Carney Hospital on September 2, 2016. Florence, was preceded in death by her daughter, Beverly Ann Paige and is survived by her son, Errol Stephen Paige. She will truly be missed by her Grandchildren: Carl Banks Jr., Lisa Clark, Eve-Lynne Pickens, Derek Paige, Kimberly Banks, Rahsaan Paige, Henry Paige and numerous family members and dear friends. Grammie was a faithful servant of the Lord. Her favorite quote - Yesterday is History, Tomorrow is a Mystery, Today is a Gift from God. A Celebration of Life service to honor Florence will be held on her 103rd Birthday: Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 6:00 PM, Shawmut Community Church of God, 600 Shawmut Avenue, Roxbury, MA 02118. Repass 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM. VFW Post 1018, 500 Morton Street, Dorchester, MA Florence's ashes have been placed at Forest Hills Columbarium beside her husband.
