June 22, 1926 - Nov. 21, 2016 Francesca Fazzare passed away on Nov. 21, in Vacaville, at the age of 90. She was born on June 22, 1926, in Antonimina, Reggio Calabria, Italy to Pietro and Domenica Fazzari. When Francesca was three years old, her mother died during the birth of the only son in a family of four daughters. She was raised by her father and stepmother, Immacolata Fazzari. In 1945, she married Antonio Giovanni Fazzari. Francesca and her husband immigrated to Vacaville in 1956 with their three children - Theresa, Peter, and Mima. Her son, Ray, was born two weeks after they arrived in America. Twins Rosie and Tony were born in 1961. The family settled in Browns Valley with Francesca's three sisters-in-law and their families, the Murdacas and the Sicilianos, before purchasing their first home in Vacaville. Francesca and her husband worked for 30 years at the Basic Vegetable Products plant prior to retirement. Francesca was the last surviving matriarch of the family immigrant group from Calabria. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000. She was a devout Catholic and a member of the Women's Social Club at St. Mary's Catholic Church. All of her children were baptized and married in the same parish. She enjoyed maintaining her vegetable garden, cooking traditional Calabrese dishes, and spending time with her large family. She is survived by two sisters, Amalia and Clementina, and one brother, Nicola; numerous nieces and nephews in Antonimina; her six children, Theresa, Mima, Ray, and Tony of Vacaville, CA, Peter of Woodland, CA, and Rosie of Dixon, CA; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held from 9 to 9:45 a.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 350 Stinson Ave. Funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Vacaville Elmira Cemetery directly after.
