Freda passed away peacefully on December 13, 2016. Predeceased by her husband Ted of 58 years, she will be remembered with much love by daughter Deborah Ainsworth (Loren), son Dennis (Brenda), grandchildren Diana (Brian), Christopher, Jason (Kate) and Jenna, and her many friends and extended family. Freda was born on August 27, 1920 in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. She spent her childhood growing up on a farm, enjoying many happy hours of horseback riding. In 1939, she and her family moved to Parksville. During WWII, Freda served in the Canadian Women's Army Corps with rank of Company Sergeant Major. She and Ted met in Parksville after the war. Ted was quick to recognize a hardworking, down to earth prairie girl and they were married a few months later in 1946. They soon moved to Victoria and eventually settled in Cordova Bay in 1952. Freda spent the next fifty plus years being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, home maker and neighbour. She was a kind, caring person who was grateful for everything in her life. Although Alzheimer's affected her memory over the past decade, her love of family and friends continued to flourish. The family would like to thank the staff at Sunrise Assisted Living of Victoria and the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Extended Care for their many years of compassionate care.A celebration of Freda's life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation. Condolences may be offered at the Victoria First Memorial Funeral Services Dignity Memorial webpage.
