Gary HollisMasonGary Hollis, of Mason, MI died Friday, January 13, 2017 at the age of 64 of natural causes. He was born on February 28, 1952 to the late Richard (Dick) and Shirley (Walter) Hollis.Gary is survived by: his mother Shirley; sisters Vicki Morales, Pam (Wayne) Badge; daughter Shannon (fiancé Ron L. Hodges); nephews Erik (Judy) Booth and AJ (fiancé Meghan Mollett; three great nieces and three great nephews; his late wife Sue's (Glumm) nieces and nephews; stepson, Tony (Shelly) Benavides; his step grandchildren Colin Benavides (fiancée Shawna Gray) and Julia Benavides; and his beloved dog, Benjamin (Benny).Gary was preceded in death by his wife of over 20 years, Sue (Glumm) Hollis and his fiancé of 15 years Margaret Benavides and his father Richard (Dick) Hollis. Gary was a member of the Mid Michigan Street Rod Association for a very long time and served as the President of the club in 1992 and 1993. He had several street rods over the years and enjoyed the many friendships and car shows.But it was his ultimate love of racing that made him truly happy. Gary started drag racing in the early 70's and moved to circle track through the 80's and into the early 90's. He then went on to enjoy restoring various vintage race cars and playing with a few gassers in the last few years. Gary was also a member of Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame and served as a board member.His love of racing gave him many great friends, including those you look up to and admire, but one in general who he enjoyed so very much was Gary Fedewa and his wife Donna. He truly enjoyed the friendship and years spent restoring and working on the various cars.Gary's best friend of over 50 years Jerry Sawyers, his wife Judy, kids, Jeremy, Josh and Carrie played an important part in his life and the years of memories will never be lost or forgotten.There will be no services scheduled per Gary's request.
