Slagowski, Gertrude T.Gertrude T. Slagowski, age 96, died Sunday, December 4, 2016 at the Atrium Rehab Facility surrounded by her loving family under the care of Ministry Hospice. Gertrude was born on January 26, 1920 in Stevens Point, WI. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Helen (Stanczyk) Zakrzewski.Gertrude attended St. Peter Grade School. On June 8, 1946, she married the love of her life, Maximilian Slagowski, at St. Peter Church. After the marriage the couple settled in Stevens Point. Maximilian preceded her in death on June 18, 2004.During World War II, Gertrude worked at Lullaby Furniture Manufacturer. After the war, she returned to being a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Peter Rosary Society. She was an avid baker and enjoyed raising her children and spending time with friends. She was known for her homemade pies, especially her banana cream and apple pies. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a passion and love for her family and spending time visiting and making memories with them.Survivors include her children, Carol (Gary) Check, Thomas (Pamela) Slagowski, and Cheri (John) Johnson, all of Stevens Point. Six grandchildren, Amy (Todd) Giese of Oshkosh, WI, Jason Check of Stevens Point, Lynsey (Tim) Wallace, Silver Spring, MD, Elizabeth (Edwin) Diekhus, Portage, WI, Stephanie (Derek) Treichel, Stevens Point, and Rebekkah (Josh) Morrison of Stevens Point. Eight great-grandchildren, Jordyn and Abigayle Giese, Stella Wallace, Callie and Benjamin Diekhus, Maximilian Treichel and Aislynn and Caymen Morrison. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Richard, one sister, Evelyn Konopacky, and four brothers Emeryck, Adam, Lawrence, and Ernie Zakrzewski.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2016 at St. Peter Catholic Church. Rev. Dennis Stanchik will officiate. Burial will follow at the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a parish rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Pisarski Funeral Home, 703 Second St., Stevens Point.
