Her funeral service will be 11:00 am Friday, February 24, 2017, at Paynesville Lutheran Church in Paynesville. Burial will be at the Paynesville Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday morning from 9:30-11:00 am at Paynesville Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Paynesville Lutheran Church, Paynesville Area Center or the Rose Center. Services are entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville.
www.hafh.org Gladys Mae (Lambert) Torbenson was born on August 20, 1921, in Lisbon, North Dakota, the daughter of Hugh and Etta (Murray) Lambert. Gladys attended elementary and high school in Lisbon graduating in 1939. She attended Moorhead State Teachers College and taught elementary school in Minnesota and North Dakota for 6 years before her marriage on July 25, 1947, to Donovan Torbenson. To this union two sons and a daughter were born. Don and Gladys made their homes in Grand Forks and Drake, North Dakota; Ulen and Adrian, Minnesota before moving to Paynesville in 1964. Gladys was a woman of faith and loved her church community. A member of Paynesville Lutheran Church, she was an active volunteer serving as President, Secretary and Treasurer of WELCA and a long time member of Faith Circle.Gladys was an active member of her community including the American Legion Auxiliary, Paynesville Area Center and a 53 year member of the Booklovers Club. Gladys embraced her role as a mother and homemaker and delighted in being a grandmother and great- grandmother. Above all, Gladys was most happy surrounded by her family. Gladys was an avid reader and sports fan, wonderful cook, and master of cryptoquips and crossword puzzles. Gladys lived independently to the age of 95 and after a brief illness died in Paynesville on Saturday, February 18, 2017.She is survived by her children: Richard (Darlene) Torbenson of East Amherst, NY, Renee (Pat) Waddick of Minneapolis and Kevin (Lorrie) Torbenson of Mankato; grandchildren: Eric (Liz), Greg, Rudson, Matthew, Michael; great-grandsons, Doran and Elliot: and a great -granddaughter Eva. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Donovan; her parents Hugh and Etta; siblings: Calvin, Ruth and Jennie and grandson, Ryan Waddick.
