Lewis, Rev. James B.,Rev. James B. Lewis was born on October 15, 1924, in Louisville, KY to Bernard Lewis and Myrtle Demaree Lewis. He joined his parents, brother, and sister in heaven October 11, 2017. He was a resident at Parr's at Springhurst and is survived by his wife of nearly 72 years, Alois Gray Lewis; daughter Kathy Springs (Lance) of Louisville; sons J. Barry Lewis (Cliff Goulet) of Lake Worth FL and New York; Peter Gray Lewis (Sook Jin Jo) of Los Angeles and New York; grandchildren Jason Springs (Atalia) and Amanda Langlands (Bryan) and five beloved great-grandchildren. He graduated from Louisville Male High Class of 1943 and then entered the Navy and served in Pearl Harbor during World War 2. After the war he worked with his father as a mechanic until he entered the ministry. He attended Georgetown College and Southern Baptist Seminary to prepare for this calling. He pastored churches for over 40 years in Kentucky serving at Clark's Creek in Grant Co., Ormsby Avenue in Louisville, First Baptist Corbin, Rockford Lane Baptist Church and Westport Road Baptist Church, both in Louisville, until retirement. He participated in denominational life by serving as president of the Kentucky Baptist Convention and moderator of the Long Run Baptist Association. For 30 years he participated in mentoring new pastors by serving as an adjunct professor/field supervisor at Southern Seminary. After his retirement he worked to begin the Baptist Seminary of Kentucky and served as president of the board of Baptist Homes Incorporated until his death. He helped found Baptist Homes in 1967, which now operates a senior care facility in eastern Jefferson County. He also served as a volunteer chaplain for the Jefferson County Police Department and was elected president of the local chapter of Sons of the American Revolution. Honored by both his high school and college by being inducted into the Louisville Male High Hall of Fame and by receiving an honorary doctorate from Georgetown College in 2000. He believed in and promoted education. He was forever amazed by the thought that God loved him and allowed him to minister to others. He realized the blessings he received from his parents, wife, children, grandchildren and his beloved great-grandchildren. All were precious to him and dear to his heart. Visitation will be at Westport Road Baptist Church on Sunday, October 15, from 5 - 8 PM and Monday, October 16, from 9:30 - 11:00 AM. The celebration of Rev.
