Jeanette Evans Travis, 85, passed from this life on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at her home. Memorial service: 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at Southcliff Baptist Church. Interment: Private for the family. Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at Laurel Land Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Southcliff Baptist Church or Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County. Jeanette was born on Aug. 13, 1931, in Chickasha, Okla., to John Q. "Jack" and Hazel Evans. She married Robert H. Travis in 1952 and adopted Texas as her new home state. Jeanette earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Midwestern University. Jeanette's consuming passions were her family, her faith and church and the education of young children. She began teaching second grade in 1953 but taught kindergarten through most of her career. When she retired in 1996, she was teaching first and second grade for students with learning disabilities. Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents; and brother. Survivors: Her children, Robert Travis and his wife, Kathryn, Jana Roberts, David Travis and his wife, Leah, and Mark Travis and his wife, Rebekah; as well as 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
