Jewel H. RatcliffJacksonJewel Howell Ratcliff, 97, passed from this life on Friday, December 2, 2016, at Merit Central, Jackson, Mississippi. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd., Jackson, MS, at 11:00 AM with visitation an hour prior. A graveside service will be held at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Marydell, Mississippi at approximately 2:00 PM.Jewel was born on May 24, 1919, to John H. and Ethel Howell of the Renfroe Community in Leake County. She was predeceased by her brother, J.H. Howell and three sisters, Sue Barnett, Mary Splain, and Ruby Pearl Carpenter. She was predeceased by the love of her life, Joe S. Ratcliff, with whom she traveled the world, making friends from Greece to Australia. She and Joe were married for 63 years. She enjoyed sharing her experiences with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jewel loved being a mother to her two children, Joel and Joanne. She was active in community and school affairs while they were in school. She was an active member of Van Winkle Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Afterwards, she entered the workforce and served as the Showroom Consultant at Noland Company for many years. Jewel enjoyed fishing, cooking, reading, and sewing; most of all, she loved people. She put the needs of others before her own and was a true Southern lady.Survivors include: her son, Joel and his wife, Betty; her daughter, Joanne Clark and her husband, Jimmy; grandchildren, Joel S. (Jay) Ratcliff II, Lauren and Amy Ratcliff; step grandchildren, Jonathan and Drew Wilson; grandchildren, Jami Trochessett (Bryan), Jennifer Beaugez (Jim), and Jill Clark (fiance Aaron Fulmer); great-grandchildren, Camille, Jack, Katie Wren, Will, and Mary Claire Trochessett; Annie and Emily Beaugez; Marlowe and Gage Gearheart.
