John B. Remer, 85BrootenAug. 7, 1931-Nov. 13, 2016John B. Remer, 85 of Brooten, died Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Koronis Manor in Paynesville. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2016 at St. Donatus Catholic Church in Brooten. Visitation will be from 4- 7 p.m. Friday at the church where a rosary will be prayed at 4:15 and parish prayer service will be at 4:30. Visitation will continue on Saturday for an hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade.
www.hafh.orgJohn Bernard Remer was born on August 7, 1931 on the family farm in Colfax Township of Kandiyohi County, the son of Bernard "Ben" and Mary (Pletschett) Remer. At the age of nine the family moved to a farm in Bangor Township of Pope County. He attended country grade school and Brooten High School, graduating in 1949. He worked on the family farm until entering the US Army on November 24, 1953 where he was stationed in Korea. He was honorably discharged on September 30, 1955 and returned home. In 1957, John was united in marriage to Frances Schmitz in St. Martin. They made their home on the Remer family farm until their retirement in 2001 when they moved to Brooten. John was an active lifelong member of St. Donatus Catholic Church. He served on the school board and creamery board.John is survived by his wife, Frances; seven children, Richard (Joy) Remer, Robert (Marcy) Remer, Mark (Randee) Remer, Diane (Tim) Corcoran, James (Joann) Remer, Duane (Julie) Remer and Rebecca (Brian) Wong; 22 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister Joan (Otto) Petersen. John was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Evan Remer, sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Leonard Marr.
