Johnny Rowlett, 69, of El Centro passed away on September 10, 2014. He was born on March 25, 1945 in El Centro to Glenn and Pauline Rowlett. He grew up in Imperial and graduated from Imperial High School in 1963. His many accomplishments included: Imperial Valley Stock Car Racing Association Board Member 1960's, IID Employee Association Shop Representative 1970's, IID Safety Committee Chairman 1990's IID Shop Foreman - retired 1996, Imperial Federal Credit Union Supervisory Committee Chairman and Board of Supervisors Chairman, Imperial Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief, Imperial City Condemnation Board Committee Member, Honest John's Auto Body Shop Owner and Operator and Imperial Valley Radio Control Association Member. Johnny enjoyed racing stock cars and was the Imperial Valley Stock Car Racing Association Champion of 1969. His earliest passion began around age 10 when he started building and flying model airplanes. He progressed to performing demonstration flights of radio controlled airplanes. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Cindy; son, John; daughter, Candice; grandchildren, John and Maddox; sister, Paula and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his leadership, generosity, kindness and witty sense of humor. Services will be held on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at Imperial Moose Lodge.
