John P. Schafer 1937 - 2016CLINTON - John P. "Jack" Schafer, 79, passed away on November 22, 2016, at Utica Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.He was born on September 1, 1937, in Utica, the son of James and Eleanor (Minal) Schafer. Jack was a graduate of UFA and attended MVCC. He served his country in the U.S. Army and later in the Army Reserves. On December 4, 1993, Jack married Diane Hunt. He was employed with Mohawk Data Sciences Corp., GE and Oneida Research.Surviving Jack are his best friend and soulmate, Diane; children, Melissa, James, Steven and Jeffrey; stepchildren, Connie, Richard (Christine) and Linda (Dave); sister, Joan Cook; grandchildren, Tanner, Trent and Tyler; step-grandchildren, Frederick (Chrissy), Zachary, Grace and Olivia; nephew, Robert Cook, Jr.; and a niece, Terry (Jeff). He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Robert Cook.Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Surridge & Roberts Funeral Home, 470 French Rd., Utica.
