Joseph "Pingo" Leonard VeraOxnard, CAJoseph "Pingo" Leonard Vera, 57, of Oxnard passed away on March 25th, 2017 after a lifelong illness. He was born on March 19, 1960 in Santa Paula and was a longtime county resident. He attended Douglas Penefield School in Ventura and graduated from Rio Mesa High School in 1978. Joseph never allowed his Cerebral Palsy slow him down, as he loved the outdoors and driving around in his customized van, listening to Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton and other great musicians from the 70's and 80's. However, the love for his three beautiful dogs Pinga, Sarge and Loki, meant the most to him. They were his faithful companions. He was also very fond of exotic animals and huge fan of Marvel Comic Super Heroes, and of course, his Los Angeles Lakers. Joesph is survived by his last remaining aunt Esther Vera Villicana and numerous cousins from both the Vera and Corralejo families, as well as, devoted caregivers Amanda Crowell, Cristian Barba, Lucy Aviles, Veronica Soto, Tina and James Prater. Joseph was also predeceased by his grandparents; Aurelio & Simona Vera, parents; Fernando & Felisa Vera, aunts; Hope Vera Mendez, Angie Vera Baca, uncles; Pete Vera, Arlen Vera, Robert Vera and Mike Vera. A Memorial vigil with recitation of the Rosary is planned for Thursday, April 27 at 6:00 p.m. in the Camino del Sol Funeral Home Chapel, 200 North C Street, Oxnard, CA 93030. Joseph will be laid to rest along with his parents, Fernando & Felisa Vera in Santa Clara Cemetery, Oxnard. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Otto & Son's, Camino del Sol (805) 483-3443
