Joseph was born August 23, 1933, in Accra Ghana, he moved to America after 4 years of age. Joseph received his education from The University of Nebraska, graduating with a Master's in Finance. Joseph went on to join the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged after 20 years of service.  In addition, he worked for 20 years at Apple Valley High School teaching Business Mathematics.

He was preceded in death by his parents Kykio Manu (2007), Emanuel Manu (1998).

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 50 years Gifty Manu, loving son Joseph C. Manu Jr., brothers, Ernest Manu, Enefiok Etim Manu, Bruce C. Manu, Ani S. Manu and Nsikan Etim Manu, with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great-nephews.
