Joyce Evelyn (Mayfield) BerrymanAbilene, TXJoyce Evelyn (Mayfield) Berryman passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2016. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Southern Hills Church of Christ. A visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Piersall Funeral Directors. 733 Butternut Street. Joyce was born on April 20, 1936 on a farm in Guion, Texas to Hubert William Mayfield and Francis Johnson Mayfield. She graduated from Abilene High School in Abilene, Texas in 1954, and married Jimmie (Jim) Joe Berryman at the Northpark Church of Christ on July 13, 1956. She gave birth to two children, Jody Evelyn and Jeffrey William and in 1960, Joyce and her family moved to Abilene. She and Jim were charter members of the Southern Hills Church of Christ, and for almost fifty years, Joyce served the church in many different ministries as they shared life, work, and study among her dear friends in the congregation that was the center of her family's social and religious life. Raised in a strong tradition of hard work, Joyce's employment history included factory work at Abilene's Timex Watch Factory, sales with Stanley Home Products, retail sales/customer service with Abilene Drug and Templeton Pharmacies, and she finally retired as Volunteer Coordinator for RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program). She then spent over ten years as a tour escort for Bilbrey Tours. A storyteller at heart, Joyce loved reading, playing games (bridge and 42), and "cutting up" with her many dear friends. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, and by her husband Jim.She is survived by her daughter, Jody Evelyn Berryman of Abilene; her son Jeffrey William Berryman and his wife Ann Jaleen of Seattle, Washington; two grandchildren, Amy Rebecca Berryman of New York, New York and Daniel Joseph Berryman and his wife Grace of New York, New York; her sister, Anita Mayfield Wilburn of Dallas, Texas; her brother, Ronald Lynn Mayfield of North Richland Hills, Texas; five nieces, two grandnieces, and a grandnephew. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Christian Service Center or Southern Hills Hope Chest.Mom, Nana, Joyce...you will so missed...
