Joyce RamsayELMWOOD - Dolores J. Ramsay, 83, a long-time resident of Elmwood, died Sunday, December 4, 2016, at her home.Joyce was born on June 16, 1933, in Toluca, Illinois, to the late James Henry and Marjorie Mae (Burwell) Porter. She grew up in Peoria and attended Manual High School and beauty school. At the age of 18, she began employment with Caterpillar. It was there that she met her husband, the late Thomas F. Ramsay. They were married on July 6, 1952, and remained in Elmwood, raising their six children. Joyce was later employed by CILCO, working there until her retirement in 1994.She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; her parents; and two siblings, Donald Porter and William Porter.A sister, Lynn Schertz of Peoria, survives.Joyce was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and enjoyed recounting past players or friendly banter with any "Cubs" fan. She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Brimfield, IL, and a woman of strong faith. Joyce is survived by her children, Barbara (Greg) Mitchell of Georgia, Brenda Bender of Peoria, Thomas (Chris) Ramsay of Elmwood, Donna (Steve) Elliott of Elmwood, Kim (Dan) Runyon of Brimfield and David (Caren) Ramsay of Elmwood. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Marilyn (Gary) Stewart of Elmwood. Marilyn was like a sister, and both she and Gary were incredibly helpful to Joyce. In addition, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Snider of Wyoming; 13 grandchildren, Megan, Sara, Amy, Alyssa, Leanne, Matt, Nikki, Nicole, Courtney, Isaac, Holly, Alli, Tom and Mackenzie; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.A celebration of life service will be held on December 10, 2016, at 10:30 a.m., at the Evangelical Free Church in Brimfield, 11724 N. Maher Road, with Pastor Don Blasing and Joyce's nephew, Pastor Ken Stewart, presiding.
