Celebrating The life of

Karen Carney-Lester, 66, of Detroit, Michigan, passed on March 07, 2023. Karen was born on July 20, 1956 to the late Gale and Estelle carney. To this union two precious girls was born Karen and Gail Carney. Karen was the youngest of the two. She was educated through the catholic-Detroit public school system. Karen gave her life to Christ at the tender age of 8 years old, she was baptized at the st. Mary’s Catholic Church. Later in life Karen rededicated her life to Christ at Christian community church. Karen Carney-Lester married David Lester who preceded her in death. She faithfully and willingly gave her time serving on many auxiliaries such as the usher board and the hospitality committee. Karen took pleasure writing letters and sending cards to friends,family, and strangers. Karen started a prison ministry of writing to inmates on a weekly basis. So many inmates expressed their gratitude from Karen sending letters because of the lack of support from the outside world.


Karen was never afraid of hard work, considering she starting her work journey at the age of 13, as an after school babysitter.After high school.

he quickly obtained a full-time position with the Detroit Free Press ,as sales consultant. Soon after,she realized that the newspaper wasn't

satisfying her the way she was hoping for. At the time , she found a love for haking and openly accepted a position at Stemma Bakery in Greek Town. After Stemma bakery closed Karen continued her baking carer at Walmart in the bakery department. In 2010, Karen went into early retirement due to her failing health. Karen was not the type to sit still so she and David Lester opened a janitorial company called Golden Gloves DLC. They Nourished in this company for over 13 years.


On November 30, 2022 Karen received her wings, she was 66 years young. She is survived by her special daughters : Monique Draw- Johnson

(Jerome) & Sandra O'neal. Latisha Fowlkes(Goddaughter) Sisters :Gail Griffin, Margie Draw (Micheal), Carolyn Echols (Ronald)Brothers: Pastor Vance Evans Sr. (Sherry). Nephews : Tyrone GriffinVance Evans Ir. (Ebony). Sister in Christ: Odella & Prophetess Crystal Glynn. Special Finends: Anthony Adams, Regina, and Tenecia Jackson.
