Kasten, Kathleen "Kathy"Kathleen M. Kasten, age 77 of Gillett, passed away at her home with her family and longtime friend, Doris "Cookie" Whiting, at her side on Sunday, October 1, 2017. She was born on September 14, 1940 to the late Walter and Arlene (Arveson) McDermid. Kathy married David Kasten in Suring, WI on June 30, 1962.Kathy is survived by her son, Craig (Amy) Kasten of Gillett, WI; daughter, Stacie Kasten of Barneveld, WI; five grandchildren, Jessica, Lauren, and Jacob Kasten and Kelsee and Kauy Fargo; brother, Wayne McDermid of Las Vegas, NV; sister, Sharon Porter of Las Vegas, NV; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Harry (Nancy) Kasten of Cecil, Velma Yancy of Kiel, George (Carol) Kasten of Columbus, KS, Leola Schneider of Gillett, Lynn (John) Seiltz of Greenleaf, and Marge Kasten of Gillett. Kathleen is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.She was preceded in death by her husband, David; her son, Scott; her parents; in-laws, Harris and Edna Kasten; siblings, Anita and Leo Wawiorka, Patricia and Norbert Hilbert, and an infant sister; brothers-in-laws, Steve Porter, Ernest Kasten, Kenneth Schneider and Bud Yancy.Kathy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was especially proud of their accomplishments in athletics and showing livestock. Raising cattle on the family farm and helping her children, grandchildren, nephews and numerous 4-H exhibitors with their beef projects was important to her. For family enjoyment and competition she enjoyed teaching others how to can dill pickles, salsa and make homemade jams. Kathy was also instrumental in bringing the livestock auction to the Oconto County Youth fair. When remembering Kathy, think of this quote "why limit happy to an hour". Cheers!Visitation will be held at St. John's Catholic Church in Gillett on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 2:00 pm until the Mass of Christian Burial at 6 pm with Father Rico Eclar and Sister Marla Clercx officiating.
