Laverne "Verne" E. Dingman, 84, a native of Longmont, Colorado died March 5, 2017 at his home in Longmont. Verne was born on July 30, 1932, to Elmer and Delma (Eaton) Dingman. Verne graduated from Longmont High School in 1950. His first job was as a caddy at the Sunset Golf Course; he also worked mowing yards and shoveling snow. During his high school years he worked for Conner Vegetable Farms and also Longmont Brick. Verne married his high school sweetheart Marianne Nicks in 1951. She preceded him in death in 1987. Following high school, Vern enlisted in the United States Air Force. Vern was very proud to serve his Country. During his service time, Vern worked with the nuclear weapons squadron for four years as a technician in California, Texas, New Mexico, Ohio and Illinois. Upon discharge from the Air Force Vern returned to Colorado and began his career at Rocky Flats. Vern worked for thirty seven years at Rocky Flats, retiring in 1993 as production manager. After retiring from Rocky Flats, Verne worked for the Department of Energy in Los Alamos, NM for the next ten years as a weapons consultant. Verne set up the first little league baseball program in Longmont. He was very dedicated to the Longmont high School sports programs along with being an avid fan of the Colorado Rockies and Denver Broncos. In 2009, Vern married Kelley Christensen in Estes Park, Colorado. Together they loved, laughed and shared their lives. Survivors: Wife, Kelley (Christensen) Dingman; Sons, Gene (Jane) Dingman and Gary (Cynthia) Dingman; Granddaughter, Stephanie (Jessy) Guajardo, Grandsons, Joey (Jenn) Dingman and Justin Dingman; Four Grandchildren, Trevor, Mila, Torie and Blayne; Cousin, Shirley Shrauger and Don (Judy) Whitmer and numerous Dingman cousins. Preceded in death by his first wife, Marianne Dingman, Son, Kevin Dingman and his wife, Kim Dingman; Parents, Sisters, Dorothy Englehard and Darlene Benson, Grandparents, James and Maude Dingman. A Celebration of Vern's life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 6, 2017, Carroll-Lewellen Funeral Home Chapel, 503 Terry St., Longmont, CO. A time of gathering, memory sharing and refreshments will follow the Celebration in the reception hall at Carroll-Lewellen.
