Goebel, Leonard J.Leonard J. Goebel, 93, of Fond du Lac, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at St. Agnes Hospital surrounded by loved ones. Leonard was born on March 27, 1924 in Fond du Lac, the son of Robert and Amanda Goebel. On April 12, 1950 he married Josephine E. Thompson at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eden. They then raised their seven children up as members at Presentation Parish in North Fond du Lac. He was a devoted husband, the caretaker of his wife of sixty years.Leonard was a hardworking man, managing a family farm and roofing until he started working at Mercury Marine, retiring after twenty-five years. In retirement he enjoyed keeping a spotless yard, gardening, sturgeon spearing, and shucking hickory nuts. He also liked the time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Never without a handkerchief or "Howdy do", Leonard's smile and pleasant demeanor will be missed by those who knew him.Survivors include his children: Sharon A. (Ron) Goebel of Eden, Carol K. (Jerry) Triatik of Fond du Lac, Thomas R. (Mary) Goebel of Fond du Lac, Mary Jo (James) Kruck of Fond du Lac, Ronald C. (Kim) Goebel of Fond du Lac, Linda M. (Bill) Reitz of Rosendale; his siblings: Rosella Baumhardt of Eden, and Arlene (Gary) Harrington of Oshkosh; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Josephine on March 21, 2009; one son, Leroy J. Goebel in 1972; siblings, Elmer (Helen), and Harold (Louraine); as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Visitation will take place on Saturday, July 29, 2017 from 10:00 AM until 12 noon at Presentation Church-Holy Family Parish, 705 Michigan Ave, North Fond du Lac, WI, 54937. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at church at 12 noon. Burial will follow the service at Calvary Cemetery.Special thanks to his caretakers at St. Francis Home, St. Agnes Hospital, Agnesian Hospice, and the Doctors who attended him.
