Mabel Edith Hopp passed away on March 3, 2017. She was born on April 22, 1924, in Royalton, Wis. During the Depression, she worked hard to help her family grow food for the table and learned how to garden. Mabel met the love of her life, Bernard Hopp, an avid hunter and fisherman. Bernie expressed his desire to go to Alaska, the Last Frontier. After serving in the war, Bernie and Mabel sold their home and moved to Alaska. There he built several homes. In their spare time they would go hunting and fishing. Mabel had a good eye for spotting a moose. Mabel leaves behind many wonderful stories of hunting and fishing trips they did as a family and with friends.Mabel was a member of the Catholic Daughters, Homemakers of America, Doll Club and Bunko, making many friends along the way. She was known in the community as the Raspberry Lady, as she could grow some of the largest, beautiful and tasty Raspberries in Anchorage, Alaska.She was a wonderful cook and baker and enjoyed feeding the family and friends. In the summers, as she would work hard in her garden; She would have so much food that she shared with the neighbors and family, and the rest went to the Rescue Mission to feed the homeless.Mabel is survived by her son, Robert and his wife Linda Hopp; her grandchildren, Eileen Neas, Philip Hopp and Eric Hopp; three step-grandchildren, Patrick Riste, Timothy Riste and Paul Riste; along with grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will be buried next to her husband, Bernie, here in Anchorage. She will be missed dearly by her family and many friends. May God take her on a wonderful journey that is as fruitful as the life she leaves behind.Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2017, at St. Patrick's Parish, 2111 Muldoon Road in Anchorage. A small reception will follow at the church.
