Marie Johnson Gridley, 91, died on September 6, 2015 at Methodist Hospice Residence. She was born on March 15, 1924. Marie was predeceased by her husband, Glenn Coe Gridley, Jr. (Bud) and her son Glenn Coe Gridley, III (Trip). She leaves two daughters, Nancy Smith of Collierville, TN and Jennifer DeVotie (Frank) of Fairfield, CT. She also leaves three grandchildren; Rebecca Frances Suiter (Philip) of Lexington, KY , Senior Airman Ian DeVotie of Fairfield, CT and Stuart DeVotie of Fairfield, CT. She was also predeceased by her parents, Maude and Bruce Johnson of Whitehaven and her brothers; Sidney, Nelms, Earl, J.D., and Vernon Johnson. Marie graduated from Whitehaven High School and Memphis State College (now U of M) where she was Vice-President of her graduating class and named to “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges”. She worked as a Clinical Biochemistry Technician at Kennedy Veterans Hospital and later taught math and science at Colonial Junior High School. She was an avid golfer, belonging to the Galloway Ladies Golfing Association and also played duplicate bridge at the McWherter Center. She was a member of First Evangelical Church where she was a member of the LOGOS class. The funeral will be held Friday, September 11, at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue Memphis, TN. Visitation will be from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. with services following at 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
