Marie L Williams was born August 4, 1926 in Vicksburg, Mississippi to the union of Jake and Charity Billinger. She was one of 16 children. Her confidence in self enabled her to venture from her parents home and face the world at a tender age. She united in Holy Matrimony to Samuel Williams Sr. on February 28, 1945 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. They moved to Chicago, Illinois in the nineteen fifties and with hard work, dedication, and perseverance they purchased a home where they raised four children.
Marie accepted Christ at an early age and stood firmly on the word of God throughout her life. She was a member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Clay Evans. She joined the usher board ministry and was a devoted ambassador for over fifty years and elevated to usher board president. Her post was in the balcony of the church where she maintained an orderly section. She was stern but often utilized this position to offer a genuine smile, a kind word, or maybe even a slice of her wisdom. In 2018 the Spirit led Marie to join St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor A. Edward Davis Jr.. As a member of St. John she continued to offer sound advice and words of encouragement to those surrounding her.
Throughout Marie’s career she was employed at Solo Cup Company, Samsonite Luggage Company, Burlington Northern Rail and Amtrak; while employed at each location she made a lasting impression of punctuality, hard work ethic, and respect. Marie retired from Amtrak Railroad where she was influential with management and instrumental in opening the door of employment for multiple family members and friends.
Marie was a dedicated member of the Order Of The Eastern Star. She also was an active member of the Dynamic Ladies Organization where presided as President until her retirement.
