Kohler, Sister Mary DanielaSister Mary Daniela Kohler was called to her eternal reward on April 12, 2017 at Franciscan Courts, Oshkosh, Wisconsin. She was born on February 6, 1924 in Grossenhub, Wuerttemberg, Germany, to parents Hieronymus and Maria Kohler and given the name Maria. Maria had three brothers and three sisters. Two of her brothers died in World War II.During the war she worked for a number of families in their homes taking care of their children. She later worked half a day for a dentist and the other half a day as a secondary teacher by order of the Office of Employment. Toward the end of 1944 she was called by the Social Welfare Office in Germany telling her that she had to work as a social worker or she would be shot. Sister M. Daniela was invested as a novice on March 19, 1948, in Abenberg, Germany. On August 16, 1949 she left Abenberg for the United States via Switzerland. She professed her first vows on August 12, 1950 and final vows on August 12, 1955. She celebrated her Silver Jubilee on June 15, 1975, her Golden Jubilee on September 17, 2000, and her 60th Year Jubilee on June 6, 2010.Sister ministered in various capacities throughout her religious life: X-ray technician, teacher, and school librarian. She stated that she really loved teaching and enjoyed the students. Most of her mission life was in various places in Wisconsin. On October 17, 1989 Sister M. Daniela retired at SSM Franciscan Courts when it first opened.During her time at Franciscan Courts, Sister volunteered at Mercy Medical Center; St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, and Fr. Carr's Place. Her last living sibling died in August 2016 at the age of 86. Sister Daniela prayed that her sister would enjoy the eternal happiness which God gives to those who suffer. Sr. M. Daniela Kohler 's Homecoming services will be held Monday, April 17, 2017 at 4:00 pm and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 10:30 am in SSM Franciscan Courts Chapel. Commitment services will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Oshkosh, Wisconsin. RIP.
