Mary Rachel Johnson, 89, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother departed this world to be with our Lord in Heaven on Monday, Oct. 27, 2015.Mary was born on June 27, 1926 in Dry Bayou, Mo. to William Amos Dowd and Janavieve Myrick Dowd. While living in Missouri, Mary grew up with a young man named Hugh E. Johnson, who turned out to be the love of her life and the two were married Jan. 26, 1946. Mary and her husband had three wonderful children, and in 1959 Mary and the family moved to Los Alamos, N.M., where her husband worked at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory.Mary and her husband moved to Elephant Butte, N.M. in 1992 and lived there for several years. After her husband's death in 2003, Mary moved to Rio Rancho, N.M., where she lived at the time of her death.Although Mary worked in the public sector for several years, the most important jobs to her were being a wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. Mary enjoyed spending her free time knitting and crocheting many wonderful things for family and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hugh, and her son-in-law Jack Lallement. Mary is survived by her three children, Janice K. Lallement, William H. Johnson (wife B.J.), Karen V. Sandoval (husband Frank), seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson, along with many nieces and nephews.Mary will be deeply missed by her family and friends.Mary's family has entrusted their loved one to the Daniels Funeral Home in Rio Rancho. Funeral services will be held on Nov. 3, 2015. Internment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to or to the Salvation Army.
