Mrs. Maryland Laster Macon, affectionately known as “Tweety” was born to the late Iverson Laster and Josie Ponder Laster On December 16, 1926, in Jacksonville, Florida. She attended the local public schools of Duval County, graduating from Boykin Haven School of Girls. Furthering her education, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from Florida A&M University and the Master’s degree was conferred at Columbia University- New York
She was employed by the Duval County School Board as a Teacher and Guidance Counselor, having rendered over thirty years of dedicated service before retiring.
Mrs. Macon was a member of Central Baptist Institutional Church, currently under the leadership of Rev. Karl Hodges. Other affiliations include Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc- Gamma Rho Omega Chapter, National Council of Negro Women, Jack & Jill-Jacksonville Chapter and Jacksonville Chapter of the Moles
She was predeceased by her husband, Artansel E. Macon; stepson, Edward Crosby; sister, Iva L. Grant; brother, Iverson Laster and nephew, Arnold W. Grant Jr.
On March 15, 2019, Mrs. Maryland Laster Macon went home to be with the lord. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Tamara Macon and granddaughter Kimberly Macon Battle, and great-granddaughters De’lease Reed, Kia Donald, and Tieshea Padmore; nieces Mrs J Pamela Grant-Adams, Ms Tiffany Laster and Ms Saundra Planter; extended family; the Harris and Gilliam Families and friends Mrs. Ira Washington and a number of other relatives and friends.
