WADESBORO — Coach Michael "Mike" Aubrey Currie, 51, died on Oct. 17, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center Union in Monroe
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Oct. 21, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Wadesboro with Dr. Robert Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in the Currie Cameron Cemetery in Laurel Hill
The family will greet friends on Oct. 20, 2013 from 2-5 p.m. at First Baptist Church and other times at the home of Lynn and James David Lee.
Coach Currie was born on May 2, 1962 in Scotland County, a son of Ruth Culbreth Currie and the late Edgar Harold Currie.
He was a graduate of Scotland High School and Methodist University in Fayetteville. While at Methodist University, his number 21 and jersey were both retired, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, a two time All American Baseball Player and at the time of his death his career batting average is still unbroken.
Coach Currie's 29 year teaching career began at Southview Academy and currently with Anson County Schools teaching Health and PE. He will be remembered as an excellent football and baseball coach. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Wadesboro.
Surviving are his sons KC Michael Currie and Kyle Lee Currie and their mother Monica Lee Currie all of Wadesboro, his mother Ruth Currie of Laurel Hill, his brothers and sisters-in-law Howard Lee Currie of Laurel Hill, Harold Dudley Currie and Penny of Laurel Hill, and Paul Stacy Currie and Tina of Wadesboro, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Lynn and James David Lee of Wadesboro, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law David and Wendy Lee of Albemarle, and his nephews and niece.
