Michael Chavez, 16, of San Antonio, died February 9, 2018, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident involving a drunk driver. He was born February 14, 2001, in San Antonio, the son of Samuel and Alice Chavez. He attended JISD schools where he was a member of the football and basketball team.
Michael was a member of the Order of the Eagle of the Boy Scouts of America and had been a member of Troop 52. He achieved his Eagle rank upon completion of a project that restored several damaged headstones in the historic city cemetery in 2008.
Michael is survived by his parents, Samuel and Alice of San Antonio; his brother, Paul, and his sister Sabrina, both at home. He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Teresa and Frank Rivera, also of San Antonio; and his paternal grandparents, Philip and Betty Turner of Indianapolis. He is also survived by his close friends, Jacob Hart, of San Antonio and, Zachary Taylor, of San Antonio and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Meadowlawn Funeral Home in San Antonio. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2-4.The funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home and at 10 am at Cornerstone Church in San Antonio.
