Paul was born on September 22, 1924 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to the late Paul Packard Porter, Sr. and Mildred Astrich Porter.In 1943, Paul began his service in the Army Air Corps during
World War II. He was a B-17 radio operator and gunner in the Eighth Air Force until his plane was shot down over Germany on New Year's Day in 1945 and was a Prisoner of War until he was freed by General Patton on April 29, 1945. Upon returning from serving his country, Paul graduated from Gettysburg College and immediately joined the DuPont Company. He held several positions in the Photo Products, Advertising, and Marketing Communications Departments. Paul retired from DuPont in 1985 on a Friday and started working the following Monday as a tour bus driver at the Alfred I. DuPont Mansion and Gardens for the next 25 years.Paul's genuine personality and humor was felt by all who knew him. He was truly beloved by his friends, neighbors, coworkers, and family. Paul was an avid gardener, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.Paul was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Diane
Smith Porter; daughter, Anne Porter Taylor; and sister, Joan Tausig. He is survived by his son, Paul Packard Porter, III and his wife, Melissa of Media, PA; daughter, Paige Porter Wolf and her husband, Phil; four grandchildren, Kelsey Porter, Samantha Porter, Brian Wolf, and Dylan Wolf.Memorial services will be held at the Chapel at Maris Grove Retirement Community in Glen Mills, PA on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 10:30am.
