Paul J. Scuglik1932 - 2013Paul J. Scuglik, 80, of Kenosha, died on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.Paul was born on Sept. 2, 1932, the youngest of seven children to the late Stefan and Pauline (Antala) Scuglik. He attended local schools and graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School in January 1951.Paul was employed at Simmons Co. until December 1952 when he was drafted in the Army, serving his country from Dec. 8, 1952, until Dec. 4, 1954. He was stationed in Korea from June 8, 1953 to June 10, 1954. Paul received the Korean Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, UN Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, ROK Presidential Unit Citation and Good Conduct Medal. Paul transferred to the Army Reserves and served for six years with an honorable discharge on Nov. 30, 1960.He returned to work at the Simmons Co. while attending the UW-Extension, Kenosha and UW-Milwaukee. From 1958 until his retirement in 1995, Paul was employed through the Laborers Local 237 working construction in Kenosha and Racine. For twenty years, he was elected financial secretary-treasurer of Laborers Local 237.On Aug. 27, 1966, Paul was united in marriage to Pauline J. Szikil at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Kenosha. They were blessed with one loving daughter, Paula and almost 47 years of marriage. He was a lifelong member of the Slovak Catholic School Assembly # 113 and held the position of financial secretary for many years. Paul was a 50 year member of the Laborers International Union of America, a lifetime member of the VFW Junker-Ball Post #1865-Kenosha and a life-long member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Paul enjoyed golfing, bowling and going to the dog and horse race tracks. He is survived by his wife, Pauline; his daughter, Paula (Jon) Swoboda; his step-grandchildren, Leann Wurtzinger and Casey Swoboda; step great-grandsons, Logan Wurtzinger and Taylor Cutts; his brothers, Joe, Tony (Gloria), Bill (Elsie) and Rudy (Delores) Scuglik along with seventeen nephews and nieces and their children. In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Willam (Lucy) Szikil and father-in-law, Arthur Kidd; his sister, Vilma and his brother, Steve Scuglik, Jr.; nephews, Tony Scuglik, Jr., Richard Scuglik, Carl Gundacker; sister-in-laws Bernice Scuglik and Ann Tucker and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 2223 51st Street. Family and friends are asked to meet at the church for Mass. Private inurnment will be held in St. George Cemetery.
