ASHLEY — Robert E. Holse, 90, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Cameron Memorial Community Hospital, Angola. He was born on January 14, 1924 in Carey Hurst, Wyoming to Rudolph W. and O. Lena (Jensen) Holse. He was a machinery set-up operator at Weatherhead / Dana in Angola, and retired May 1, 1987 after 41 years of service. He was a Sgt. in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II in the 509th Composite Group and was a flight mechanic on the Laggin' Dragon, which delivered the second Atomic Bomb to the Tinian Islands. He was a member of the Angola American Legion Post 31, Angola, IN, and Financial Secretary for UAW Local 1406 for over 20 years. Robert married Beverly Jean Deter on September 24, 1950, in Marion, IN, and she survives. Survivors also include two sons, James R. Holse of Ashley, Gary G. and wife Jamie Holse of Rolling Prairie, IN.; one daughter, Linda K. and husband Nigel Smith of Cocoa Beach, FL.; and 3 grandchildren Benjamin, Russell and Timothy. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, John, Roy, Jack, and Frank Holse, and one sister Esther Feichter. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at H.E. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, 108 S. West St., Angola, Ind. Burial will be in Pleasant Lake Cemetery, Pleasant Lake, Ind. Visitation is from 4-7p.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the funeral home.
