Roderick A. Niles, age 79, of Greenbush and formerly of St. Clair Shores died on Friday, May 29, 2015 at his home. He was born on April 14, 1936 in Detroit to the late Ivor and Margaret Niles (Nee Larkin). Rod started as a printing intern at the Detroit Free Press right out of high school in 1953. His career there spanned 38 years and he held the positions of printer, foreman and superintendent in the composing room before he retired in 1991. Locally, he and his wife owned and operated the Wooden Nickel antiques store for eight years. Rod enjoyed boating, the outdoors, being a sports fan and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Oscoda Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Mikado American Legion. Rod is survived by his wife, Lucille, whom he married on Aug. 17, 1957 in St. Clair Shores. He is also survived by his daughter, Kimberley Niles of Oscoda; son, Curtis (Dolly) Niles of West Bloomfield; three grandchildren, Sydney, Olivia and Roderick; and his nephew, Michael Mullen. In addition to his parents, Rod was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Mullen.
