FORT WAYNE — Ruth Garnell Coburn, 88, of Fort Wayne and formerly of St. Joe, Ind., died Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Ind. She was born on October 24, 1925, in DeKalb County, Ind., to the late George Arthur and Grace Izella (Ginder) Keller. She married Edwin Merle Coburn on June 24, 1944, at Coburn Corners Church of Christ in St. Joe. Surviving are her husband, Edwin M. Coburn of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a son, Roger (Rhonda) Coburn of St. Joe, Ind.; a daughter, Patricia (James) Platner of St. Joe, Ind.; six grandchildren, Rebecca Bonta, Christine Musselman, Lydia Bender, Jonathan Platner, Rachel Laycock and Caleb Kruger; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, June (George) Kurtz of Harlan, Ind. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Nyla Jean Coburn; a daughter, Marcia Kruger; a granddaughter, Sonya Kruger; and two sisters, Lois Scheele and Marilyn Burdick. Ruth worked as a seamstress for L.S. Ayres and was a member of the Coburn Corners Church of Christ. She enjoyed oil painting, flowers & crafts and won several cooking and painting awards at the St. Joe Pickle Festival. Calling will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014, from 10-11:30 a.m. at Coburn Corners Church of Christ, 6813 CR 64 St. Joe, Ind. Services will be held on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the church with James C. Platner, her son-in-law, officiating. Burial will take place in Alton Cemetery, St. Joe. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to be given to Golden Years Homestead Benevolent Fund, 8300 Maysville Road, Fort Wayne, IN 48615 or Lake James Christian Assembly, 1880 W.
