YORK Ruth M. (Hornick) Ward, who was formerly of Johnstown, died Saturday January 3, 2015 at Misericordia Nursing Home, York. Following cremation by the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, all services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing. Ruth was born on April 5, 1924 in Johnstown and was a daughter of the late Paul and Gertrude (Cowan) Hornick. Mrs. Ward had a Bachelor's Degree in Business from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She taught business classes at the Bishop McCort High School in Johnstown for 14 years, having taught a total of 20 years. After teaching she worked for the Veteran Leadership Program for 18 years doing administrative work and helping returning Veterans prepare their resumes. Ruth retired at the age of 88 and went on to volunteer as their secretary. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed walking, and was extremely active. Ruth will be missed by many. Ruth leaves two daughters, Rebecca Land and her husband, Paul of Glen Rock and Trudy Shea of Bloomington, Ill.; a son, Joseph Ward, Jr. and his wife, Brenda of Johnstown; five grandchildren; and two brothers.
