Samuel Reyburn Poe, Jr. 1933 - 2016Samuel Reyburn Poe, Jr., 83, of Springfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at his home, on Sunday, November 27, 2016.Samuel was born on June 20, 1933 in Little Rock, AR, the son of Samuel Reyburn Poe Sr. and Elizabeth Meyer Poe. He married Joyce Maureen Goodwin on October 3, 1953; she preceded him in death in 2015. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and one son, Michael Reyburn Poe. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Whitfield McMahan of Chapel Hill, NC and his son Thomas Randall Poe of Springfield, IL. He is also survived by devoted family friend, Sharon McConnell; nieces Jeannie Sher, Patricia Goodwin and Laurie Harris Poe; nephew, Brian Poe; cousins Anna Yates, Deanna Yates Jones and Gabriel Jones; and numerous granddogs.He joined CIPS/Ameren in 1965 and served as Director of Corporate Communications until his retirement. During his tenure there, he earned his master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. After retirement, he served as Chair of the SBA SCORE Chapter in Springfield from 2002-2012. He was loyal family man, friend to many, an avid golfer, birder, and always a civic-minded member of the community, participating in numerous worthy causes. He was also a U.S. Army veteran.Cremation was accorded by Lincoln Land Cremation Society and he will be interred alongside his son and wife at Oak Ridge Cemetery.The family will be hosting a reception of remembrance of the lives of Samuel and Joyce on Saturday, December 10, 2016 from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Poe residence in Springfield.
