Walter (Walt) Tedder passed away at home on his ninetieth birthday, December 7, 2016. Walt was born on December 7, 1926 in Mount Gilead, NC to the late Frank P. and Mattie W. Tedder.Walt is survived by Doris, his wife and sweetheart of 66 years. He is also survived by daughters, Carol Lewis and Kathy Estridge (Rick), son, Mike Tedder (Kathy); grandchildren, Jason Lewis (Cody), Ashley Lewis, and great-grandchildren, Tyler, Maddy, Erika, Tanner and Carson.Walt was one of seven children and is survived by brothers, Jake Tedder (Marcelene) and John Tedder (Joan) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Franklin Tedder and Albert Tedder and sisters, Doris Crump and Rachel Ross..After serving in the Navy and the Army, Walt moved to Charlotte and attended Kings Business College. He worked as an accountant for Johnston Mills for over twenty years and retired from the Mecklenburg County Tax Office where he was a Commercial Tax Auditor.Walt was a lifetime member of S. John's Baptist Church, where he and Doris raised their family. Walt served in many capacities, but will best be remembered as a "Greeter" and the "Candyman". His pockets were always filled with peppermint and butterscotch.Walt loved God, his family, and friends above all else. During his retirement years, he and Doris enjoyed t raveling with lifelong friends from St. John's and a group of friends that named themselves, "The Drifters". However, their main focus remained spending time with and caring for their family and friends.There will be a graveside service on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 2:00PM at The Tedder Family Cemetery, located on McKay Hill Road, Mount Gilead, NC.A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 1:00PM at St. John's Baptist Church, 300 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC.
