Willard CookseyWillard Cooksey, 89, of Walnut Grove, passed away on Monday, October 2, 2017.Willard was born on July 19, 1928, to James and Donna Cooksey in Walnut Grove, MO. On May 9, 1954, Willard and Jewell (Hayes) were united in marriage, they shared 63 wonderful years together. Willard was a life-long area resident of Walnut Grove, except while he faithfully served in the military. Willard loved his country and was proud to be an American. He enjoyed spending time at the American Legion, playing poker, going to the casinos, and traveling. He also loved to play the fiddle and going to the horse races. Willard was a generous man and found it to be important to give back. He was passionate about tithing, giving to St. Jude's and to Israel. Willard was also a published author and wrote the book, Bends in the Road. He enjoyed to drive and he enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren to drive. He loved his family and he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those that knew and loved him. Willard is survived by his wife, Jewell Cooksey of the home; four children, James Cooksey of Walnut Grove, Dennis Cooksey and wife Libby of Walnut Grove, Connie Tittle of TN, Kevin Cooksey and wife Vicky of Willard; sister, Mildred Ruzicka; brother, Benny Cooksey; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends. Willard was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Steve Tittle; sister and brother-in-law, Juanita and Fred Owens; granddaughter, Valerie Cooksey; brother-in-law, Tony Ruzicka; and sister-in-law, Margaret Cooksey. Visitation will be Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 6:00PM-8:00PM at Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, Walnut Grove, MO. Graveside services will be Friday, October 6, 2017 at 10:00AM at Wheeler Cemetery, Walnut Grove, MO. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to and may be left at the funeral home.
