William A. Loewen1933 - 2016William A. "Bill" Loewen, 83, of Kenosha, peacefully slept away Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, at Kenosha Senior Living.He was born on April 15, 1933, to the late William and Margaret (Frederick) Loewen in Kenosha. He was educated at St. George Catholic Grade School and graduated from Racine St. Catherine's High School in 1951.Bill began working at the age of 11 at family markets near his home at 17th Ave and 48th St. After high school he served in the U.S. Army from May 21, 1953 and was honorably discharged on May 20, 1956 the latter being stationed in South Korea. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.On Aug. 18, 1956, he married Margaret M. Banovez at St. George Catholic Church. She passed away on Feb. 29, 2000.On Dec. 26, 2003, he married Bernadette (Morgan) Lasky at St. George Catholic Church.In 1957 he began working at Monfils Kenosha Monument Co., which later became a family business Monfils-Loewen Kenosha Monument Co., Inc.Bill was an integral part of St. George Catholic Church (St. Elizabeth Catholic Church) for most of his adult life. In his later years he was associated with St. George Cemetery along with St. Casimir Cemetery. He was the treasurer and active member of St. Vincent de Paul Society, member of Knights of Columbus #973, VFW #1865, a 50 year member of Kenosha Serra Club, President of St. George Home and School Association, President of St. George Holy Name Society and Parish Council Member of St. George.Bill was honored at the Pennoyer Park Bandshell in 2015 by the Knights of Columbus for his dedication to the Outdoor Mass for 26 years.Bill is survived by his wife Bernadette, his children William M. (Kathleen) Loewen of Batavia, Ill., Michael G. Loewen of Kenosha, Anne M. Loewen of Kenosha, Thomas J. (Billie L. Wilson) Loewen of Kenosha and Katherine E. Loewen of Oconomowoc, his sisters Sr. Kathleen Loewen O.P. of Milwaukee and Mary L. Loewen of Sterling Heights, Mich., his step children William (Jodie) Lasky of Las Vegas, NV, Carol (Gary) Pleet of Pleasant Prairie, Elizabeth (Jeff) Dulak of Pleasant Prairie and Thomas (Noni) Lasky of Whitefish Bay, his 12 step grandchildren and his one step great grandchild.He is preceded in death by his five brother-in-laws and his sister-in-law.A Mass of Christian Burial for Bill will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 12 p.m. (Noon) at St. Mary Catholic Church (corner of 39th Ave. and 74rd St.). Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at St. George Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass.
